Bio Section

Greetings, fellow melodious gamers.

If you didn’t happen to see the email I sent out around 4 AM this morning, I’m working on expanding the site a bit and am in the process of creating a Meet the Club section.  This section will contain short bios of our members, and if you’re interested in participating I encourage all of you to either reply to the email I sent, or fill out the little form on the page I linked.

Halloween Party

This week’s meeting is our annual Halloween party, so feel free to show up in costume.  We’ll be providing a bunch of snacks, but as always, please be extra awesome and bring a little something to share (ie, a bag of chips, a 2 liter of pop, a dozen cookies, etc).  For those of you who are still in the dorms, this is an excellent chance to use those dining dollars (assuming you have any left).

I’ll be posting pictures as soon as I get them.

Man, we look awesome.  Special thanks to David for lending us his L33T camera skillz.  Also, big thanks to MTV for sending us that shiny new Rickenbacker you see in the front row.

If you missed the meeting and wanted to be in the picture, sorry, I’m not that great with Photoshop.  Just be sure to show up next time we announce a photo shoot.

Rock Band DLC – Week of 9/22

Sage is actually posting, what the christ! Here’s this week’s DLC announcement:

Hey everybody,

If you got the newsletter you are already in the know, but for the sake of getting everybody on the same page – next week’s DLC is Pearl Jam’s new album Backspacer. This one has an interesting release schedule – it will be on 360 this Sunday to coincide with the release of the album, the 22nd on Wii, and the 24th on PS3 per usual. We also have a track from Megadeth and a track from The Fratelli’s coming for PSP. Enjoy!

Pearl Jam is an American band that became one of the precursors of alternative rock after forming in Seattle in 1990. Made up of Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron, the band has sold more than 60 million records around the globe. The band hit mainstream success after the release of its 1991 debut album, Ten, which sold 12 million copies worldwide. Ten became available for download in the Rock Band Music Store day-and-date with the reissue of the album March 24, 2009, and has sold more than 850,000 song downloads to date.

The band’s ninth and latest studio album, Backspacer, will be released in stores Sept. 20 and will be added to the Rock Band Music Store for Xbox 360 on Sept. 20, for Wii on Sept. 22 and for PlayStation 3 on Sept 24. Pearl Jam is touring in promotion of the new album from August through October in the United States and Europe.

In addition, Pearl Jam will offer a special edition CD set at Target stores nationwide that will include the Backspacer album disc and a code that enables owners of the special edition to download the entire album for Rock Band or Rock Band 2 gameplay for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The tracks will be imported into participating fans’ Rock Band libraries and be accessible to all game modes, including solo, band play, online multiplayer and instrument vs. instrument.

Available on Xbox 360 (Sept. 20), Wii (Sept. 22) & PlayStation 3 system (Sept. 24):

“Gonna See My Friend”
“Got Some”
“The Fixer”
• “Johnny Guitar’
“Just Breathe”
“Amongst the Waves”
• “Unthought Known”
• “Supersonic”
• “Speed of Sound”
• “Force of Nature”
• “The End”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

I’ve purchased the bold tracks from that list. As usual, let us know if you want to see any of the others.

In my opinion, the album is all right, but it’s no Ten. I’m interested in what everyone else thinks, because we’re still set to get a huge Pearl Jam project next year. They’re a good band and all, but their sound seems to be wearing a bit thin. We’ll see, I guess.

Stepmania this Week

Gentlemen.

As a refined DDR connoisseur, I must say that last week’s Stepmania availability left a bad taste in my mouth.  Slow menu, lag issues, etc.  Well, today I’m here to assure you that this week’s will be better.  For starters, we’ve added a couple of themes that should solve some of the graphical lag problems.  Also, we’re going to be using a different external hard drive this week, in an attempt to rule out bad hardware as a cause of the selection lag.  Finally, we’ve updated our mix to include 3,425 songs, which is a large number and therefore good.  Hopefully, if all goes well we should have a much more enjoyable Stepmania experience this Thursday.

By the way, if you’d like a copy of our Stepmania mix, please bring an external hard drive with at least 9 gigabytes free to a meeting, or contact us and I’ll burn you a DVD (please bring either a blank DVD-R, $1, or one of those big cans of Arizona Green (or Raspberry) Tea to cover the cost of the DVD).

Callout was Last Night

I certainly hope you attended.  If you didn’t, man, you sure missed out.  Over 9,000 people attended, and much fun was had by all while we ate pizza and played Rock Bands, Guitar Mans, and Dancing Arrows Hero.  If, for some insignificant reason (such as class or SARS), you were absent from this monumentally important event, don’t worry:  You can still come to our normal meetings every Thursday night from 7-10.  We’ll just say mean things about you behind your back.

For those of you who did show up, remember:  You have two free meetings to get a feel for things before dues are…due.  So come back, keep mashing on our equipment, and decide whether the club is right for you.

Club Photos

I’ve added a Flickr account for the club, which can be found over on our Media page.  Thing is, I don’t have very many pictures from the club over the past few years, so if anybody out there has a bunch of photos, please send them to me so I can get them uploaded.

Group shot 05-06

This picture is so old.  Only two of those people even show up anymore.  We need to do yearly group photos.
